How to flush your Yamaha Outboard Motor

Maintaining your Yamaha outboard motor involves regular flushing of the cooling system, especially after use in saltwater or dirty water. Flushing helps remove salt, sand, and other debris that can cause corrosion and clog the cooling system. This guide will step you through the correct use of the cold flush method to keep your motor in top condition.

How to flush your Yamaha outboard motor-

Tilt the motor to a vertical position to allow proper water drainage.

Locate the flush port on the motor. It’s usually on the side of the lower unit.

Attach the flushing device securely to the port and attach the garden hose to the flush fitting.

Ensure the connection is secure to avoid leaks and allow fresh water to flow through the cooling system for at least 10 minutes.

Make sure water is exiting through the exhaust port and water outlet, indicating proper circulation.

Check for a steady flow of water from the tell-tale.

If water flow is weak or irregular, there may be a blockage that needs further attention.

After flushing, disconnect the garden hose from the flush fitting and carefully remove the flush fitting from the motor.

Make sure to reconnect the port to the motor once done.

A few things to remember-

Ensure you are flushing your outboard after every use.

Always perform the cold flush method with the engine off to prevent damage.

Properly flushing your Yamaha outboard motor using the cold flush method is an essential maintenance step. By following these steps, you can prevent corrosion, remove debris, and extend the life of your motor. Regular flushing ensures your Yamaha outboard motor remains in top condition, providing reliable performance on the water. Happy boating!
